Michael Bennett

Michael Ray Bennett was born on January 12, 1948, in Palestine, Texas. A devoted husband, father, and friend, Mike was known for his strong work ethic, kind heart, and love of his family. He spent his early years in Grapeland , where he developed a love for hunting and the outdoors.

After graduating from Grapeland High School he joined the Air Force and served during the Vietnam War as an aircraft mechanic. After the war, Mike came home to work in the family business, Bennett’s Auto Parts and Garage.

Mike went on to work for Texas Department of Corrections as a Corrections Officer for 10 years till his retirement.

Mike married the love of his life, Nita Pennington, and together they raised two children, Matthew and Ashley. He was a dedicated father who always put his family first. Mike took pride in attending his children’s games, school events, and family trips, creating cherished memories along the way. He was not just a father, but also a mentor and role model, teaching his children the importance of integrity, hard work, and kindness.

Outside of work and family, Mike had a passion for hunting and often spent his weekends out in the woods. He loved to share this hobby with his children, passing down his knowledge and appreciation for nature. He was also an active member of his community, volunteering at the local Fire Department and Ambulance service. He even became the Fire Chief eventually and passed his extensive knowledge on to future generation.

His warm presence and willingness to help others left a lasting impression on everyone he met. Mike’s legacy is one of love, resilience, and generosity. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. Mike leaves behind a lasting impact, and his memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.

Mike is survived by his children, Matthew and Ashley, grandchild, Suzanna, as well as a host of friends and extended family members. He was a pillar of strength and kindness, and his life will continue to inspire those he leaves behind.
